WE MADE OUR FIRST PURE CSS GAME!

Goals and Objectives

Well, we tried to make the game but it is unfortunately still under development. As a team we were challenged to create a game using only css and html, these coding languages are normally used to create web pages and web applications (not games) . Creating a game using html and css can be a fun and educational project, but it comes with certain limitations due to the nature of these languages. The goals and objectives of making such a game revolve around learning, creativity and simplicity. Here are some goals and objectives we had for creating a game using css and html.

Creating a game with HTML and CSS is an excellent avenue for honing web development skills. Our team aimed to achieve responsive design, ensuring that the game could adapt to diverse screen sizes and devices. Additionally, developing a game with these technologies offered an opportunity for us to explore fresh ideas and concepts, pushing the boundaries of what can be accomplished within the constraints of HTML and CSS. Above all, the primary objective of game development is to offer entertainment and enjoyment to players. Even relatively straightforward games built using HTML and CSS can deliver a fun and engaging experience.

Scope

We at first aimed to make a game where you would play as the president of South Africa in a parallel universe and attempt to bankrupt your country. You would essentially need to pick up all the money that showed up on the screen while also avoiding the policemen which if not successful would lead to a game over, you would win the game once collecting all the money. Unfortunately we could not bring that idea to life so we had to come up with a new plan. Our new idea was still the same concept i.e. play as a president that bankrupts a country. However, we changed a few challenging gameplay mechanics to simpler ones. You now have to collect a singular pile of money and escape with it, you still need to avoid the policemen as they result in a game over. The various elements involved in this game included building a room for the player to move it, a controller to allow movement, alll the textures involved in the game such as buildings, floor tiles, a player avatar as well as policemen avatars and so forth.

Trials and Tributations

The challenges we faced during the first project included figuring out how to have collision in our game such that the player could not move through the walls, this was the pivotal for having a game so we needed a different approach. We then set out to try our hand at radio inputs which is a very different method of movement to what we previously had. We unfortunately still have not managed to implement being able to complete the level once you've picked up the money and walked to the exit area. Learing to implement a lot of CSS techniques in creative ways was extraordinarily challenging for The WhakaTeam who are still just a group of beginners, regardless of that we persevered to make it happen and we are very proud of how far we got, we still don't have a finished game but we can of course show you our hard work in the making!

Please take note that this game is still under development, Play at your own risk!
